Chicago VA to provide needed school supplies
Schoolchildren with backpacks.

Employees at Jesse Brown VA Medical Center are teaming up with Volunteers of America Illinois to provide new school supplies to children who are homeless or in foster care.

Employees can help a child get off on a great start to the school year by donating a backpack and school supplies. The last two years, Jesse Brown VAMC collected nearly 50 percent of the items donated for this cause, and helped hundreds of schoolchildren get the year started on a positive note.

Employees can donate by following these directions:

  • Bring a new backpack and at least four new supplies from the list to the VA Voluntary Service Office (Room 4245, Taylor Bldg.) Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
  • Print your name on the sign-in sheet when dropping items off.

Donations must be made by July 26.

Items needed include: pens, pencils, markers, crayons, highlighters, loose leaf paper, spiral notebooks, three-ring binders, assignment notebooks, daily planners, dictionaries, thesaurus, calculators, and protractors.
