JBVAMC will commemorate Veterans Day on Saturday, November 10, with two special events that will be meaningful to all those who have served our Nation in uniform, as well as the JB employees who continue to serve our Veterans.
JB will dedicate its “Wall of Honor” at the main (Bed Tower Pavilion) entrance with the unveiling of a ceremonial plaque at 10:30 a.m. The Wall of Honor pays tribute to the service members of the US Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard.
“We are hoping for a large turnout of Veterans from each branch of service to give us an opportunity to recognize them and their dedication to our country,” said medical center director Michael A. Anaya, Sr. “The Wall of Honor is immediately visible to anyone entering our facility and it reinforces VA’s mission that our entire reason for being here is serving those who have served.”
Following the plaque unveiling, the medical center will hold its annual Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. in the Kizer Conference Center. The keynote speaker will be Master Sergeant Mark Evans, founder of Patriots 4 Pizzas, which has shipped over 50,000 free pizzas to military troops in Iraq and Afghanistan since July 2008.
Other special guests at the Veterans Day ceremony will be audience members from Oprah’s Ultimate Favorite Things TV show. The group is very active in donating to veterans causes and will make a presentation to JBVAMC.
Entertainment will be provided by Zaramela, a high school jazz band, and the UIC Glee Club Allegra. Following the ceremony, a pizza luncheon will be served sponsored by – you guessed it – Patriots 4 Pizzas.
