Jesse Brown expands vaccine availability for veterans
March 4, 2021
Jesse Brown VA Medical Center is making COVID-19 vaccines available to all veterans who are eligible for VA health care, regardless of their age and whether or not the veteran has any underlying health conditions.
Jesse Brown began offering COVID-19 vaccines in December to health care worker employees and to older and high-risk veterans. As the number of available doses increased throughout January and February, veterans 65 and older and veterans of any age with specific health conditions were able to get the vaccines. Now, increased vaccine availability in the Veterans Health Administration has allowed Jesse Brown to increase the number of veterans who can get the vaccine immediately.
“We know how important this vaccine is to veterans and to our city and region as we get back to resuming normal life. We are glad that we are able to get the vaccine to any eligible veteran who wants it,” said Dr. Sarah Unterman, chief of staff at Jesse Brown.
This week Jesse Brown provided a first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to its 10,000th veteran and more than 1,900 Jesse Brown employees have received at least one dose of the vaccine. Overall, Jesse Brown has administered more than 20,000 vaccine doses.
Veterans who are enrolled in the VA health care system can make an appointment for the vaccine through their primary care team or by calling 312-569-5801. Veterans can also visit https://www.chicago.va.gov/services/covid-19-vaccines.asp for information about the vaccine at Jesse Brown. Veterans who do not currently get their health care at Jesse Brown can visit https://www.chicago.va.gov/patients/eligibility.asp to learn more about eligibility and apply for health care from the Veterans Health Administration. Veterans can also visit Jesse Brown and enroll in the VA health care system and receive the vaccine the same day.
